A Dream I Had

Recently I have been having a lot of jet lag, which is strange for me since sleep has never been a problem. Two nights ago I got to bed at two in the morning after talking about absolutely nothing with my roommates (we are seriously an Indian version of Seinfeld. What is that, Saijinder?). I had a dream while sleeping, and that dream was one of the best stories I have ever heard. The dream actually ended, which has never happened before, and then I woke up. It was five am and now I could not go back to sleep because I kept marvelling at my dream.

The next morning I wrote down the dream and now I post it to share with you. It is in note form (many sentences are not complete, etc.) since I was in a hurry and now I feel lazy to transfer it to story form. If one of you are willing to redo this to an actual narrative form and send it in to me I will post it and write a paragraph expressing my gratitude to you. This paragraph can include your name if you want your fifteen seconds.

And now, my dream...

Barber is very good, starts getting rep while cutting military hair in
Vietnam/WWII/some war

Magic is in his hands, can tell not just type and best cut for hair,
but hair talks to him. He understands the full personality and
history of the person from his hands running through that person's
hair. People can train for their full lives but they must have that
magic along with natural talent.

It is said that the barber could do any cut including a special cut
impossible for most where hair can be regenerated/rejuvenated just
from the haircut for a full month (one month to grow inch long hair
from a bald person).

Barber has a daughter who learns the trade by watching the father
while she was young and hanging out at her dad's workplace. She also
demonstrates the same magic in her hands and starts learning from her
father but he dies before he can teach her how to use the magic in her
hands to rejuvenate hair. She is very good at everything else and
also builds her reputation but keeps trying to figure out how to get
the hair rejuvenation to work. The hair does not talk to her as
clearly as it did her father.

She grows old, taking on several promising apprentices one at a time,
only to have them desert her for higher fame and fortune as well known
celebrity barbers. Soon she is old and cutting hair in her house in a
small town in rural America.

Her grand daughter does not have the same magic in her hands so can't
continue the family business. But since she was in the family, she
knows what to look for in a person's hands to find that magic. She is
young and the magic that she is missing in her hands she has on her
feet as she is a wonderful dancer.

One day she and her friends are at a roller rink and she notices a guy
in another group who has signs of powerful magic. So she challenges
him to a dance off teasingly. Her real purpose is to gauge the magic
in the fellow, but he is ignorant of that purpose and takes her on as
a playful challenge. She dances beautifully and in each response the
guy tries to mimick her step but has an overall clumsy attempt
(althought he catches on quickly). She does some moves, and he tries
to copy. Then her, then he. Seeing little evidence of the magic she
suspected, she calls the end of the competition with a smug smile and
goes off to her friends. The guy goes back to meet his friends who
are all ecstatic that he did so well according to them. One of his
larger friends approaches him and says something and in response the
guy starts in sign language. From the corner of her eye as she is
talking to her friends, the girl notices the guy talking in sign. And
notices the magic. His hands move through the sign words beautifully,
as if alive themselves. The guy evidenced no magic while dancing
since he was learning, and the magic didn't come through in the
stressed situation. In something he was familiar with, such as sign
language, the magic flowed through. And it was powerful.

The girl recruits the guy to her grandmother who is guarded at first
due to prior apprentices who have left her in the water. But the guy
seems earnest and the power in his magic is intriguing for her. As a
challenge she takes the guy under her wing.

As the guy studies from the grand mother, romance between him and the
grand daughter slowly blossoms.

Soon the guy learns to use the magic. Amazingly he says he can hear
the hair clearly, perhaps more so than the old lady's father. Now she
sees the possibility that he could rediscover hair rejuvenation cut.

His reputation grows with his ability.

He gives a cut eventually that shows hair rejuvenation and the hair
grows back for three months at a rate faster than the original barber.
But soon the cost of this particular technique is learned as his
magic seals off and he can no longer hear the hair clearly. Now he
must find a way to reopen the channels. Slowly, he regains the magic
bit by bit. But will he ever get enough magic to try the technique
again? Can he run it safely or will he lose his magic for good?

hehehehe nice Bollywood story you have going there!
The start 'barber knowing a persons life through the hair' is a straight copy of that Rahul Bose movie - 'Everybody Says I'm Fine' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296621/)

Interesting story though :p
